Atlanta has joined the ranks of great dining cities by offering international cuisine in over 8,000 restaurants throughout the area. Many outstanding restaurants began to crop up just before the 1996 Olympic Games came to town, drawing numerous innovative chefs to the city. Known for it's traditional Southern cuisine, Atlanta also offers ethnic delights including sushi, dim sum, noodle houses and burritos. The Atlanta Restaurant Marketing Association boasts more award-winning chefs than any other coalition in the South.

The highest concentration of restaurants is in the neighborhood of Buckhead. So, naturally, Buckhead is where some of Atlanta's most unique restaurants are located, such as the Buckhead Diner, where you come dressed as you are at the "ritziest diner in the country." The neighborhood is scattered with everything from sophisticated establishments that require coat and tie to laid-back burger joints, making for a wide array of places and cuisine from which to choose.

Though Atlanta boasts a wide variety of restaurants, one cannot come to the south without sampling some real, down-home southern cooking. Two places standout when it comes to such cuisine - The Colonnade and Thelma's Kitchen. These places offer the best of both worlds, often creating amazing southern dishes by following a more contemporary school of cooking.

Other great restaurants include Max Lager's American Grill & Brewery, charmingly nestled in a restored industrial building. Are your taste buds screaming for peach cobbler? Get right over to Pittpat's Porch on International Boulevard. Or ride a magic carpet as you feast at Imperial Fez. Check out Horseradish Grill, known for its pleasing atmosphere and good food. Wish to dine at a historic Plantation tonight? The 1848 House fits the bill. Mama Nina's Mexican Restaurant serves the best the sizzling fajitas in the state. Whatever type of cuisine you may be fancying, you'll find it in Atlanta.
